OH, THE HUMANITY! Stop the Starlight Festival Shouts

Okay, here's how we can stop all the craziness shouting and the like:

1. Put your cards up for sale in your Bazaar, max price, so no one can actually buy 'em.
2. List the jobs and level ranges the cards in your inventory are actually for in your Bazaar comment.
3. List your own personal jobs and ranges as a /seacom under "Quest/Other."
4. Don't run around unnecessarily! /check everyone you can see in-range standing still, then move after a few minutes.

Everything will work itself out from there with some careful, patient /tells. No more /shout!^^

Happy Holidays!

I doubt that will work so please stop complaining. If you seriously have a problem with the shouts either put on filters, dont go to the cities, or just stop playing FF for like a week until this event dies.

Just turn up your shout filters and let everyone enjoy the event.

I've already put my filters on, Reinheart of Titan and Wanta; /shout, /say, and /emote. And with my filters on, more than a dozen successful trades have been made amonst me and my shellmates. I've already earned my Dream Robe and intend to get the +1 using the same system.

If you have any pragmatic reason that this system wouldn't organize and streamline this event, please elaborate upon it. It could help to make the event go even smoother! The only reason this system wouldn't work is if people continue to shout like idiots, spamming the servers and killing bandwidth.

I'm not saying this must be done nor that it's the best way. I simply believe it could go a far piece towards giving more people more chances to enjoy this new and exciting seasonal event without bogging things down.

  • That had to hurt. I felt it too.

Because bazaar checking is inefficient. Just use /seacoms. It's incredible how many people were slick enough to do this yesterday. The majority of them already have their robes. Maybe you should try it.

I just /tell those in the job and level range of my card, "Care for a holiday card?" After I do a search for the job, of course. That way noone has to go change their job just to turn the card in. Not that it helps me any, damn level limit...

No bandwidth problems to report! ^^

The event seems to be working well enough as it is. You would figure after playing ffxi for a while, people would get it through their head that you can control others. Its a game... its not work, school, or anything important...

Indeed, Motoh. The same could be accomplished entirely through /seacoms, although the very limited space in the search comment field would make it hard to display all jobs as well as any cards in inventory including their conditions. Bazaar and comments seemed a practical way to display the cards while /seacom seemed a practical way to display jobs and ranges. And seeing as everyone is already gathered around these moogles, checking people's bazaars seems just as efficient as spamming shouts.

Also, I have participated in this event, Motoh. I'm still participating. I have my robe. I got it last night. I mention this fact quite clearly in the the thread's opening post.

Byozuma :

I've been doing something similar, Byozuma, except I've been checking people's search comments in addition.

This event seems intended to motivate people to level as many jobs into as wide a level spread as possible. It certainly has motivated me to level some jobs I've barely considered!^^

Hyjynx :
[EDIT: Lots of misrepresentation, misunderstanding, and ad hominem flamebaiting not worth reprinting here]

Simply put, Hyjinx: I was making a suggestion. I wasn't whining or complaining about something I could do nothing about. I offered a way to simplify and expedite a fun, little holiday event. I've not been doing any shouting or saying. And to reiterate, I got my dream robe last night. Soon, I'll have my Dream Robe +1.

Will shouting occur during events? Of course! Do I have to listen to it? Of course not. And I haven't been. And I will continue to participate without shouting. Just because something works doesn't mean it can't be improved. The "If it ain't broke..." mentality is obviously not one to which I'm subscribing in this case.

Something as unimportant and frivolous as a seasonal MMORPG event, one would think other players would be less resistant to change. It seems I was wrong.

BTW, Hyjynx: ironically, your individual and up-until-recently personally meaningless bandwidth was not the pipeline to which I was referring when I mentioned spamming problems! I wasn't even referring to mine, oddly enough! I'll allow you a few moments to guess with whose bandwidth I could have possibly been concerned. Here's a hint: if this particular bandwidth gets thin, more than just you and I would suffer.

Wow, people get so upset over the smallest things these days. Relax, take a breath and realize it's a game.

I put up a Misc seacom listing all jobs and all levels. just enough space to do it. Got tells within 1 minute of people asking for a certain job. The smart ones know how to find people, the desperate ones do the shouting. OP, if you've got the filters on... why are you complaining? :o_O

You wonder where the flame got turned on? Really, someone of your superior vocabulary(Got Dictionary?) should show a bit more maturity.
