Yeah, uh... was this Samurai even wearing gear? Having been recently reminded by hitting 75 on Ninja, the jump between 74 and 75 for a geared player is massive. Even if you're in AH shit, though, a Samurai would have to be pretty fucking retarded to get beaten out by a level 72 player. Excluding Ranger, Accuracy alone is a massive thing to overcome, much less level correction to everything else.

Excluding some pieces that are marginally different from existing items (people can trumpet all they want about Virtuoso Belt, but it's still just a Life Belt and you won't notice any difference), there's practically nothing new to concern yourself with. The Evolith system may finally be unveiled soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath about that. The game is stagnating badly, I'm afraid, possibly because developers have been working overtime to invent idiot fetch quests that involve zones no one goes to anymore (for good reason).

Would I be wrong in assuming Lava's ring and Kusha's ring are the best ring choices currently available?

Situational, especially w/ pizza+1. I would use them at some places, but keep Rajas/Tor at others.

If Lava's and Kusha's Rings didn't require giving up about 80 hours of playtime to get the damned things to drop, I'd suggest giving them a go. As SE decided that drop rates are for sissies, however, the opportunity cost compared to the far more achievable and fulfilling process of completing Chains of Promathia means that I'm going to suggest Rajas Ring and a second Accuracy ring. Those "situational" situations of which Vegetto speaks are so marginal as to be meaningless.
