I have two computers, one gaming one not-so-gaming, heh.
was just wanting to know the best looking and best performance enhancements in the config for FFXI.

MIP mapping- on or off?
Textures- Compressed or not?
BUMP mapping- on or off?
Environmental animations- on or off?

the soundeffectnum is the ammount of sounds that are on during a given time?

Wow, that's alot of things changeable. Shame the PS2 doesn't have those options... or wait, it doesn't need them. ^,^;

Best looking -

Outside Config Menu
Genereal - Mip-mapping: on
Screen-size - Overlay Graphics rez: Whichever your monitor can handle that's highest
Screen-Size - Background Rez : 1024x1024, or 2048x2048 if you know which registry string to edit.
Textures : Set both to uncompressed
Effects - Bumpmapping : On
Effects - Environmental animations : Smooth
Sound : Crank to 20 if you got a decent sound card
Misc: Enable Hardware mouse cursor

And if you know how to do so, enable 4x Anti-Aliasing & 16x Anisotrophic filtering in your vid. card driver settings.

Ingame Config Menu
Misc1/2 Menu (can never remember which ones are in which)

Player Shadows - High
Animation Framerate - Full
Sky - On
Max Player Models - Max

Best Performance :

Genereal - Mip-mapping: on
Screen-size - Overlay Graphics rez: 640x480 to 1024x768
Screen-Size - Background Rez : 256x256 to 512x512
Textures : Set both Compressed
Effects - Bumpmapping : Off
Effects - Environmental animations : Off/Normal, yer choice
Sound : Set to 16 if you got an average sound-card
Misc: Enable Hardware mouse cursor

Ingame Config Menu
Misc1/2 Menu (can never remember which ones are in which)

Player Shadows - Off/Low (only 2 FPS difference from my benchmarks on my gaming system when the game starts to chug)
Animation Framerate - 1st or 2nd "notch" in the bar.
Sky - Off
Max Player Models - Minimum/Middle

. Shame the PS2 doesn't have those options... or wait, it doesn't need them. ^,^;

Oh yes it does, you'd be surprised how badly that system chugs during busy king camps, or Dynamis runs.....many times I wish I could turn off the shdaows & lower the animation frame-rate on the system when my PC isnt running correctly and I'm forced to use PS2.

thank you

the gaming system I built has 2 7800gt in it

3dMark05-10583
3dmark03-25435

I know of antialaising and anisotropic filtering but FFXI just never looks good.
guess 3-4 year old graphics can only look so good.

Same as graphics, when there is a lot of things in the screen, the FPS goes to like 5-10fps(lots of spells) my cards should just blow through that like nothing, but the system is chugging. Is there any way to fix this?

PS2 doeant use Bumb mapping, MIP mapping, and runs at 640x480 with no AA or AA at 2...

yoshizz, look under KI underground, there's a newer post that tells you how to do this... there's also been one for a long time on dreams in vana that has a guide.

sadly you are running to video cards on a SLi board, yes? the new nVidia 6800GT and 7800GTs when running side-by-side don't have compatible FFXI drivers as of yet... have fun when someone casts firaga III <,<
...as for dynamis and HNMS... i ALWAYS switch to PS2 simply because i don't give a shit about graphics (even though there is a HUGE difference from my PC > PS2) and when on PS2, the gamre runs flawlessly... everything is faster on the PS2 version simply because your PC is processing: windows, all the system files, antivirus kernels, many other processes... PS2 is ONRY reading FFXI off of the HDD, no other processes.
