Avatar / Summon / Blood Pact Exhibition
Posted 6 Mar 2010
(warning: shameless plug ahead)
New to SMN or just want to know what the job's skill sets look like?
This thread is here to help you because embedded here are videos that show you every single summonable avatar and available Blood Pact in the game!
Part I:
Elemental Spirits
Carbuncle
Ifrit
Titan
Leviathan
Part II:
Garuda
Shiva
Ramuh
Fenrir
Diabolos
Part III:
(upcoming)
Alexander
Odin
I couldn't find any complete BP demonstration anywhere on youtube, so I decided to make my own. FFXI's avatar/summoner doesn't get enough love on youtube. I mean, look at other FF Summon videos.. they're everywhere.
I also decided to forego any visual or audio edits to show the game as it was meant to be. Which is why I used PS2 quality gfx (its the lowest denominator in graphics . "Classic" FFXI look). Also because my laptop isn't strong enough to FRAPS well. I used Dazzle.
If you like what you see, or think I did a good job, or just want to get on my good side
do leave comments and rate 5 stars on the clips themselves. Thanks.
This is dedicated to all fellow Summoners out there, especially to the ones on this forum board.
lotsa love

Official Avatar's Favor testing thread.
Posted 9 Nov 2009
This thread is here to compile all documented information on the new SMN ability 'Avatar's Favor' and its related effects.
The following is a compiled list of established findings taken from findings posted along in this thread.
Stuff in red require more information or as yet are unverified.
Avatar's Favor
Avatar's Favor (using A.Fav for short) is a Pet Command (ctrl/alt-B).
A.Fav can only be activated when an avatar that can have favors is summoned.
This means it cannot be used when an Elemental Spirit is out.
(A message saying "Avatar's Favor has no effect" will be displayed, but the command will not be used)
- A.Fav is a Pet Command obtained at Lv 55.
- A.Fav is a 5minute recast, 2 hour duration ability.
- A.Fav is granted to its user (the SMN) only.
- A.Fav can be clicked-off (cancelled manually).
- A.Fav is removed when zoning, and also when the player is KO-ed.
- A.Fav is dispellable.
- A.Fav is different from each avatar's specific favors (avatarname's Favor, henceforth called Specific Favor or S.Fav for clarity simplicity).
- The A.Fav status remains active regardless of whether you have an avatar summoned, or which avatar is being summoned.
- A.Fav only works on Terrestrial and Celestial avatars, and not Elemental Spirits.
The effects of Avatar's Favor are:
- Avatar Perpetuation Cost -2 (NOT applicable to elementals)
- Avatar present will have a Specific Favor enhancement aura.
- Avatar Damage Penalty (more info being compiled)
Specific Favors
Specific Favors (using S.Fav for short) are the specific Favor bonus granted by the avatar.
Specific Favors is an unofficial term used to group Carbuncles' Favor, Fenrir's Favor, etc into 1 category and distinguish it from Avatar's Favor.
- An avatar will immediately grant a S.Fav when A.Fav is used while that avatar is out.
- Any avatar summoned while A.Fav is already in effect will automatically grant a S.Fav from the moment they are summoned.
- All avatars except Elemental Spirits have a S.Fav enhancement aura.
- S.Fav is granted to all party members within range from the avatar - however this does not include the avatar itself.
- S.Fav also works with Fellowship NPCs.
- S.Fav cannot be clicked off (cancelled manually).
- The range for S.Fav appears to be 10' around the avatar.
- The S.Fav status is active as long as one is within range of the avatar, but is removed immediately when the avatar is released.
- Multiple S.Fav effects can stack on a character as long as they are from different avatars.
- S.Fav supposedly stack with all other forms of buffs that provide similar/identical effects (Songs/Rolls)
- Each avatar's S.Fav has a new unique icon corresponding to their bonus effect.
- Each S.Fav effect scales based on the time that the avatar is left out - each S.Fav scales differently.
>> The potency of S.Fav effects increase over time - as long as the avatar is left out.
>> S.Fav appear to have a soft cap and a hard cap.The max potency of a S.Fav will be soft capped unless the Summoner has at least +48 skill above cap (ie 317 @ Lv75)
** this has only been tested true for Lv75
>> The time required to reach soft cap varies across all avatars
>> The time required to reach hard cap is approximately 1m 25s (85s). Slight variance might be due to the game's 'tic' timer. *see below
>> The potency of S.Fav effects appear to drop by a little when Blood Pacts are executed on the avatar, but recovers quickly thereafter.
>> The potency of an S.Fav effect is reset if the avatar is dismissed and another avatar is summoned (even if its the same avatar).
Detailed information on each avatar's Specific Favor will be listed below.
This entire section should be considered as requiring further testing.
Note that all notations of +(time)s is added to the base (eg. +75s means 75s after A.Fav is activated, or avatar is summoned with A.Fav active)

Clarifications
The times given for Favor effects may come with slight variances because even though effects follow time intervals, the tics that cause the effect work on an independent counter.
In other words, although you start an avatar favor at time 0, the first tic to start the effect does not, although it is within a 3s range of time 0.
