suprize xiv interview at tgs

this just poped up on eorzeapedia, if you have not seen it yet. stop living under your rocks and go check it out

highlights
ffxiv is currently being developed with dx9 in mind. this means that us hold out xpers will beable to play. but the game will still have highish system reqs
windows is the primary development platform, console versions will be slightly modified to fit platform limitations. and if i read it correctly the modifications will not effect the pc client.
beta will be done in stages starting with small closed test lasting 3-4 hours expanding out to day long and week long tests. culminating with a large free open stress test.
new classes are likely to be added in with version updates and not with expansions like xi.
all equipment will degrade, not just weapons. higher end equipment will require higher repair skill.
more enemies are going to be partied meaning once you hit one the whole group will come after you leading to the many vs many combat that has been talked about. how ever there will be opertunitys to peel off individual targets.
and much, much more. go read it already! -
merit priority?
Posted 25 May 2009
hey all just would like to pick your brains about spending merits in the transition from totally unmerited to fully merited and possibly opening up a worth while dialogue about the subject in the process.
before i begin i understand the widely accepted spread of 5/5 magic and melee 1 vent 1 role reversal 5 optimization and 3 fine tuning. this is not my question
my question is this how would you suggest going about obtaining this? would you suggest focusing directly on one of the big merit sinks like optimization or the magic/melee skill and then move onto the next or would it be more effective during the transistion to work them all up together? also how much priority would you put on getting vent and role reversal? should they be the first things unlocked or somewhere in the middle of the process? as far as the skill merits should i hold off on getting them until i have caped out charlie or just go for it and let him grow into the extra skill?
just to give a bit of insight of where i am coming from i currently have 10 merits stored waiting for me to ding to 75 my hand to hand and crit rate are all ready maxed out due to being a 75 monk, so i am primarily focusing on pup here. all though i would like some insight on balancing pup merits and master merits for thous who do not have the luxury of being pre-merited.
thank you all for your time reading this and a pre-thank you for any insight given
